A block from Folk Art Crazy Quilt

Close up of block center of Folk Art Crazy Quilt.  Char Wirfs mended a tiny tear in one of the solid red triangle pieces.

Quilting in America was almost a lost art in the 1960's, before a healthy revival started up in the 1970's.  A few quilts exist from those times and are often free-form, colorful, and scrappy.

Finished:  Aug. 2011

From sunset photograph by Char Wirfs taken on a walk along the beach at Pacific City, Oregon in Jan. 2011.  Haystack Rock is one of the many large, natural-rock monoliths along the Pacific Coast.  These huge rocks provide refuge to many bird and sea-life species and are protected areas.  In the 19th century and early 20th century boat loads of tourists would visit the rock shooting as many creatures as they could.

Displayed at Stimulus Cafe Gallery, Pacific City, Oregon,
and Ryan Gallery, Lincoln City, Oregon.
Currently on display at artist's studio.

Here is an up-close view of one of these monster rocks.  Notice the evidence of a healthy bird population thickly layered and dripping off of this bird sanctuary located  at Cape Mears near Tillamook,, Oregon.  Photographed by Char Wirfs, Sept. 2012.
